Seismic Retrofit

Severe devastation may occur when a major earthquake hits the lower mainland or coastal regions of British Columbia. Scientists confirm it is not if, but when. High-risk structures are generally pre 1975 and built of masonry, concrete, and steel. Great and necessary improvements in the ability of older structures to resist seismic events can be achieved, most effectively in conjunction with other work to convert the use or renovate older buildings.

Pomeroy is passionate about doing our part in helping improve the safety of people in our communities. For many years, we have provided seismic solutions as both prime consultant and as sub-consultants to architecture-led teams, for the retrofit of existing structures as well as in the design of new buildings to post-disaster standards. The Port Moody Police Building is just one example of an essential service building designed to be operable after a major earthquake occurs.
